About Aussies > Aussie Rescue

Operating any dog rescue organization is heart warming and heart breaking for everyone involved.  The Aussies that are typically found at Aussie rescue kennels and homes are usually not puppies they are adults that for some reason or another can no longer stay in their current home.  Every Aussie or Aussie mix is taken to the Veterinarian to receive a clean bill of health before being placed on the adoption board.

There are two main rescue organizations, with brief statements about each:
1. The Aussie Rescue and Placement Helpline, Inc. (ARPH) is a not-for-profit organization comprised of volunteers who are dedicated to the Australian Shepherd breed.  ARPH's mission is to rescue Australian Shepherds and place them into loving, caring, and permanent homes, and to educate the public about all aspects of owning an Australian Shepherd.

2. Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. is a nationwide and Canadian program to help place Australian Shepherds into loving, caring and permanent homes. We rescue only purebred Aussies, with good temperaments for family living. We do not place dogs for any breeding purposes whatsoever, nor for any type of guard duty. Our program dogs will only be placed into carefully screened homes and approved service careers using a uniform set of rules and procedures by everyone involved in the program.

Each state has their own Aussie rescue organizations and can be found easily through an internet search or by visiting your local shelter.

NorCal Aussie Rescue, a California State nonprofit public benefit corporation. They rescue, evaluate and then place wonderful Australian Shepherds in just the right new home. This takes time! They do not adopt out of state.
